Professional Development

Systematic Reviews are the backbone of evidence-based practice. Attend this rigorous 4-day training workshop and become certified to conduct sytematic reviews using JBI software. This software is unique, providing tools for synthesis of quantitative and qualitative evidence.

Candidates who successfully complete the workshop will be certified to register their systematic reviews with the Joanna Briggs Institute.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation commissioned the Institute of Medicine to convene a comittee to study ways to better identify the most effective health care services. The resulting report, published in January 2008, is an important call to action: "The central premise underlying the report is that decisions about the care of individual patients should be based on the current best evidence available, and that having a single body charged with evaluating and sorting information will help to clarify for physicians, health care providers, and patients which evidence is valid." Read the report online or purchase for the National Academies Press and/or listen to podcasts.

Because of the interactive nature of the workshop, we limit seats. Please register now.

Visiting Purdue University Calumet for systematic review training:

We hold training in the Powers Building, room 204. See our campus map and look for the Powers Building. You can park for free in any open lot (we recommend the lot of of 169th St.) or the 169th St garage. Proceed to the Powers Building. You will need to take the stairs to the second floor to Room 204. We will post signs within the Powers and Annex buildings to point you in the correct direction.

Hotel Accomodations:

For the closest hotel, we recommend that participants who need accomodations, stay at one of 3 nearby Marriot properties off of Kennedy Ave, Hammond IN. These hotels are in safe neighborhoods and are about a 7 minuted drive to campus.

Courtyard by Marriot

Fairfield Inn

Residence Inn

Participants may also choose to stay in Munster IN, about a 10 minute drive from campus. We recommend the Hampton Inn there.
